The leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly continues to unfold, with some members currently in Abuja to meet with President Bola Tinubu.

This development comes after the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, 2025, which was sparked by 32 members of the House.

In an effort to address the issue, members of the Governor’s Advisory Council and the Lagos State House of Assembly held a meeting at Lagos House Marina on Monday, February 3rd.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat, and leader of the GAC Tajudeen Olusi.

Although the meeting’s agenda was not made public, it’s likely that Obasa’s removal was a key topic of discussion.

The controversy surrounding his removal has generated significant political tensions in the Lagos State political landscape.

The Department of State Services (DSS) recently waded into the crisis, investigating a petition filed by Obasa that alleged his removal was politically motivated and involved misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement.

After questioning lawmakers for six hours, all detained lawmakers were released late Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Obasa, who was re-elected as Speaker of the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly in June 2023, has been serving his sixth term in the assembly.

The ongoing leadership crisis has raised concerns about the stability of the assembly and the potential implications for the state’s governance.
