Police Officer Commits Suicide in Nigeria’s Nasarawa State

A police officer, Dogara Akolo-Moses, attached to the Mada police division in Nasarawa state, has reportedly shot himself dead in the Eggon Local Government Area.

According to Nansel Ramhan, spokesperson for the Nasarawa state police command, the incident occurred on Tuesday, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the act.

The officer was said to have entered a private room before taking his own life.

This incident comes after a similar incident in May 2024, where a customs officer shot himself dead at his residence in Kano.

Nigeria ranks 157th among countries with the highest suicide rates, with 3.5 suicides per 100,000 people, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
