Renowned Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo, has been nominated as the deputy minister for food and agriculture by President John Mahama.
This announcement was made through a post on X by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president’s acting spokesperson.
Dumelo’s nomination is part of the president’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which includes 12 other new ministerial appointees. Notably, the list features two female nominees, Gizella Tettey-Agbotui and Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
As a member of parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Dumelo has been investing in crop and livestock farming through his own farm, Melo Farm.
Before assuming office, Dumelo and the other nominees will undergo vetting by the appointment committee of Ghana’s parliament.
Dumelo’s acting career spans over three decades, with notable appearances in Gollywood and Nollywood movies.
His philanthropic efforts have also been recognized, with a recent honor from the University of Ghana for his support of their students.
This nomination marks a significant milestone in Dumelo’s political career, following his parliamentary seat win in December 2024.
