The Sudanese army is expected to form a new government after recapturing Khartoum, military sources told newsmen.
This development comes after army head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced plans to form a technocratic wartime government.
The Sudanese army has regained ground in Khartoum, closing in on the presidential palace, and has overpowered the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The RSF, which controls most of western Sudan, has retreated and is engaged in an intense campaign to seize the city of al-Fashir in the Darfur region.
Burhan has ruled out a Ramadan ceasefire unless the RSF stops its campaign.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has created one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, displacing over 12 million people and leaving half the population facing hunger.
The new government is expected to have a caretaker role, with the army appointing a technocratic prime minister who will then appoint a cabinet.
