Political tensions in Zimbabwe have escalated as war veterans intensify their demands for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down. The ex-combatants, who played a pivotal role in the country’s liberation struggle, are now warning of a nationwide shutdown if their calls for leadership change are ignored.
Fears are mounting that Mnangagwa, who has already served two terms, is preparing to extend his rule beyond constitutional limits. In response, Blessed Geza, a prominent war veteran leader, has openly challenged the president, calling for immediate action. However, his defiant stance has placed him in legal jeopardy, with authorities now pursuing his arrest.
War Veterans Rally for Mass Action
In a recent livestream, Geza urged Zimbabweans to brace themselves for a national protest against Mnangagwa’s leadership.
“We are going to call for action soon. Stock up in preparation for a national shutdown as we march towards a free Zimbabwe,” he declared, emphasizing that the movement intends to use constitutional means to remove Mnangagwa from office.
Geza did not mince words in his direct address to the president:
“We have called upon you, Emmerson Mnangagwa, to step down peacefully and immediately. You have ignored us. The people are going to force you to step down in line with the provisions of the Constitution. Once you go, we will allow for a transition to a democratic government where people’s voices are heard and their rights are respected… We are not afraid of you.”
