A devastating attack on a Beninese army camp in Karimama, northern Benin, has left eight soldiers dead and several military assets seized, according to a statement from the militant group Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin’ (JNIM).

This brazen assault marks the latest escalation in the growing security crisis plaguing northern Benin.

JNIM, an Al-Qaeda-linked group, has been increasingly active in the region, exploiting the porous borders between Benin, Burkina Faso, and Niger.

The group’s claim of responsibility for the attack comes amid a surge in extremist violence in the area.

The Beninese government has been struggling to contain the spread of jihadist violence, which has resulted in numerous attacks and kidnappings in recent years.

The military has launched Operation Mirador to secure the borders, but the situation remains volatile.

As the security situation continues to deteriorate, concerns are growing about the effectiveness of the government’s response and the potential for further destabilization in the region.
