A Sudanese military plane crash in Omdurman has claimed the lives of at least 46 people, with 10 others injured, according to officials.

The Antonov aircraft crashed Tuesday while taking off from the Wadi Sayidna air base north of Omdurman, damaging several houses in the Karrari district.

The initial death toll was 19, but it has since risen to 46. The health ministry confirmed that some bodies were transferred to the Nau hospital in Omdurman. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war since 2023, with tensions between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) escalating into open warfare.

The conflict has resulted in widespread destruction, atrocities, and human rights abuses, particularly in the western region of Darfur.
