The Lagos State Police Command has reinstated the security details of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, just hours after they were withdrawn.
According to Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh, the withdrawal was part of an ongoing audit of police personnel and firearms, and not a targeted move against Meranda.
The development comes amid a leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, with impeached speaker Mudashiru Obasa attempting to regain control.
Obasa had stormed the assembly complex and declared himself speaker after his security details were restored.
Meranda’s security details were initially withdrawn on Thursday morning, sparking concerns about her safety and the stability of the assembly.
However, with the police command’s swift reversal, Meranda’s position as speaker appears to have been reinforced.
