Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Akpabio stated during plenary that he has never sexually harassed Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman.

He attributed his respect for women to his upbringing by his late single mother and highlighted his role as a father to four daughters.

Akpabio also referenced his past achievements as a state governor, including being recognized as the “most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria” from 2007 to 2015. He urged Nigerians to await the court’s decision on the matter and not jump to conclusions based on unsubstantiated allegations.

The Senate rejected a petition on the alleged sexual harassment laid before it by Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing that it was sub-judice and a breach of the Standing Rules of the Senate.
