Samuel Eto’o, the four-time African Footballer of the Year, has been cleared to run in the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) executive committee elections after winning an appeal against his initial exclusion.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld Eto’o’s appeal, ruling that he should be included on the list of candidates for the elections, which will take place in Cairo next week.

Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, was initially excluded by CAF’s governance committee in January, but he appealed the decision to CAS.

The CAS panel considered that sufficient information had been presented to overturn the CAF executive committee’s decision concerning Eto’o’s ineligibility.

The decision allows Eto’o to stand for election to the CAF executive committee, although the final evaluation of candidates will be made by the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting on March 12.
