Kenyan police fired tear gas to disperse protesters attempting to occupy a church that received a substantial donation from President William Ruto.
The Jesus Winner Ministry in Nairobi’s Roysambu suburb received 20 million shillings ($155,000) from Ruto, sparking criticism from young Kenyans struggling with the high cost of living.
Ruto defended the donation, stating it aimed to address Kenya’s moral decay.
However, his actions were met with resistance, as protesters tried to enter the church and block nearby roads with burning rubbish and rocks. Several people were arrested during the clashes.
This incident comes amidst growing tensions over tax rises introduced since Ruto took office in 2022.
Kenyans have been angered by the increases, arguing that the government should prioritize tackling public waste and corruption.
