At least 15 people have been killed in a wave of brutal attacks by suspected armed herders on several communities in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The violence began on Friday when the attackers stormed Utange council ward, leaving multiple casualties in their wake. By Saturday night, the assailants advanced to Kpav, targeting Dikpo and Imande Gberihwa villages.
Homes were set ablaze, food supplies were destroyed, and terrified residents fled for safety. Several individuals were reported missing by Sunday.
In response to the tragic events, Governor Hyacinth Alia, through his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, condemned the attacks and extended condolences to the affected families and communities. “The governor expresses his profound condolences to the families of the casualties and the entire community of Kpav, particularly Dikpo and Imande Gberihwa, following the vicious attack by marauding armed herdsmen,” the statement read.
Governor Alia described the incident as a painful reminder of the security challenges facing Benue State. He stressed that his administration would not tolerate such brutality, assuring residents of intensified efforts to safeguard their communities. “We are striving intently with local law enforcement and community leaders to ensure that our villagers can reside in peace without fear of terrorism,” the governor stated.
