The Rivers State House of Assembly has taken a significant step by issuing an arrest warrant for Justice Adolphus Enebeli, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

This move comes after Enebeli failed to appear before the House within the 72-hour ultimatum given to him.

The controversy surrounding Enebeli’s actions stems from the annulled October 5, 2024, local government poll, which was nullified by a Supreme Court verdict.

The Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, had vowed to investigate Enebeli’s conduct regarding the poll.

In a related development, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara invited Assembly members to a dialogue on implementing the Supreme Court’s verdict.

However, the court had also barred the release of funds to the Rivers State government until it addresses its “flagrant disobedience” to court orders.

The situation highlights the complex political landscape in Rivers State, with the Assembly and the governor’s office seemingly at odds over the electoral commission’s actions.
