Amaju Pinnick, the former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has lost his re-election bid into the FIFA council. Pinnick secured 28 votes, just one short of the 29 votes needed to retain his seat.

The election was held at the 14th CAF extraordinary general assembly in Cairo, Egypt, where six members were elected to represent Africa on the FIFA council.

The elected members include Faouzi Lekjaa of Morocco, Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya, Kanizat Ibrahim of Comoros, Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi, Hamidou Djibrilla of Niger, and Egypt’s Hani Abo Rida.

Pinnick’s loss means Nigeria will not have a representative on the FIFA council.

He was the third Nigerian to be elected into the FIFA council after Oyo Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu.
