The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated an investigation into the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, over allegations of age falsification. The move comes amid growing concerns about the integrity of public officials and adherence to legal and ethical standards in the state.

The decision to probe the Chief Judge was announced during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule. The lawmakers expressed the need to ensure transparency and accountability in the judiciary, emphasizing that no public official is above scrutiny.

The allegations against Justice Simeon Amadi center on claims that he falsified his age to extend his tenure in office. If proven true, this could have significant implications for the judiciary in Rivers State, which is already grappling with challenges related to public trust and efficiency.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has vowed to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation. According to a statement from the House, “The probe is not targeted at any individual but is aimed at upholding the rule of law and ensuring that public officials adhere to the highest standards of integrity.”

Justice Simeon Amadi has served as the Chief Judge of Rivers State for several years, overseeing numerous high-profile cases and judicial reforms. However, the allegations of age falsification have cast a shadow over his tenure, raising questions about the credibility of the judiciary.

The probe comes at a time when the Rivers State House of Assembly is also dealing with other contentious issues, including the defection of 27 lawmakers and the subsequent legal battles. The investigation into the Chief Judge’s age could further polarize the political landscape in the state, which has been marked by intense rivalries and power struggles.
