Lydia Mugambe, a 49-year-old United Nations judge from Uganda, has been convicted of forcing a young Ugandan woman into slavery in the UK.
Mugambe, who is also a high court judge in Uganda, was found guilty on all four charges she faced, including an immigration offense, forcing someone to work, and conspiracy to intimidate a witness.
According to prosecutors, Mugambe tricked the woman into coming to the UK, where she was forced to work as a maid and provide childcare for free.
The victim was deceived about the purpose of her trip and was taken advantage of due to her lack of understanding of her rights.
Mugambe denied the charges, claiming she treated the woman with love, care, and patience.
However, the jury at Oxford Crown Court convicted her, and she is due to be sentenced on May 2.
