Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has announced a significant cabinet reshuffle, appointing new ministers and deputy ministers to key positions.
The changes aim to bolster the government’s effectiveness, particularly in areas critical to national security, economic growth, and social development.
Key Appointments:
- Minister of Defence: Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, formerly the Minister of Commerce and Industry, takes over the defence portfolio.
- Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport: Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, previously the Defence Minister, has been reassigned to this role.
- Minister of Trade and Industry: Mahmoud Ahmed Aden (Geesood) will oversee business and industrial growth.
- Minister of Transport and Aviation: Mohamed Farah Nur will head the ministry responsible for Somalia’s air and road networks.
- Minister of Youth and Sports: Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali will engage the country’s young population.
Additionally, several deputy ministers have been appointed to support the government’s efforts.
These changes come as Somalia continues to face challenges from al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militants, who seek to topple the government and establish their own rule based on a strict interpretation of Islamic law.
