Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has warned that his party will no longer serve as a “special purpose vehicle” for politicians looking to further their own careers.

Obi emphasized the need for credible and committed members to contest on the LP platform, stressing that only genuine and competent members will be allowed to run for office.

The party plans to rebuild from the grassroots to the national level, focusing on transparency and merit-based candidate selection.

Obi also highlighted the importance of aligning elected officials with the party’s ideological vision, ensuring that senators and other officials share the party’s values.

He denied speculation about his loyalty to the Labour Party, stating that he has no intention of leaving.

This move comes after former Director-General of the Obi-Datti Campaign, Doyin Okupe, admitted that he and Peter Obi had used the Labour Party as a “special purpose vehicle” to contest the 2023 general election.
