The Kebbi State Government has announced the successful rescue of Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, who was abducted from an off-campus hostel.

According to officials, the student was freed by police operatives after they trailed the kidnappers to the Dakingari forest in Suru Local Government Area. The swift action of the security team led to the student’s rescue without the payment of ransom.

Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida visited the site of the abduction alongside the Commissioner of Police, Sani Bello, and the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Zaiyan Muhammad. While announcing the rescue, Tafida reiterated the state government’s commitment to safeguarding students across all higher institutions in Kebbi.

He confirmed that Madubiya has been taken to a medical facility for a full examination.

Commissioner of Police Sani Bello explained that the kidnappers abandoned the victim due to sustained pressure from the security forces. He emphasized that the operation was carried out without any ransom being paid.

During the visit, Vice Chancellor Professor Zaiyan Muhammad raised concerns about limited hostel capacity, which has pushed many students to seek off-campus accommodation, increasing their vulnerability. He called on public-spirited individuals to assist the university in expanding its hostel facilities.

The Kebbi State Government and the police have pledged to enhance security presence around the university and its surrounding communities to prevent further incidents.
