Guinean Striker Serhou Guirassy lit up the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night with a sensational hat-trick in Borussia Dortmund’s 3–1 victory over Barcelona, but his individual brilliance wasn’t enough to rescue Dortmund’s Champions League hopes, as the Spanish giants advanced 5–3 on aggregate.

Guirassy was the heartbeat of Dortmund’s attack, delivering a performance to remember in front of a roaring home crowd. The Guinean striker opened the scoring in the 11th minute, calmly converting from the penalty spot after Dortmund won a spot-kick early in the first half.

Dortmund returned from the break with renewed intensity, and Guirassy again delivered the goods in the 49th minute. He latched onto a fine assist from Ramy Bensebaini and slotted home to make it 2–0, bringing the aggregate score to 4–3 and raising hopes of an unlikely comeback.

However, the momentum shifted just five minutes later when Bensebaini, in an unfortunate twist, scored an own goal in the 54th minute, giving Barcelona a valuable away goal and a sigh of relief.

Felix Nmecha was booked in the 56th minute as tensions simmered, but Guirassy wasn’t done. He struck again in the 76th minute to complete a brilliant hat-trick, restoring Dortmund’s two-goal lead on the night and sending the fans into a frenzy.

Despite Guirassy’s heroics, Dortmund could not find the additional goals needed to level the tie, and Barcelona, having done the heavy lifting in the first leg, progressed to the next round with a 5–3 aggregate victory.

For Guirassy, it was a night of personal triumph, but for Dortmund, it marked a bittersweet exit from Europe’s biggest stage.
