The World Food Programme (WFP) has suspended malnutrition treatment for 650,000 women and children in Ethiopia due to severe funding shortages.

The agency warned that millions more are at risk of losing access to aid if funding is not received.

WFP Country Director Zlatan Milisic stated that the agency has reduced rations in recent months, but its operations are now at a “breaking point” due to underfunding.

Over 10 million people in Ethiopia are gravely short of food, including 3 million displaced by conflict and extreme weather conditions.

The suspension affects various locations, including the northern regions of Tigray and Afar. WFP is actively seeking funding to purchase more supplies to resume treatments.

If more funding is not received by June, around 3.6 million people could lose access to assistance, including some being treated for malnutrition.
