Mamoutou Toure, former FIFA Council member and president of the Malian Football Federation, has been released from jail after nearly two years in detention on corruption allegations.

Toure was arrested in August 2023 for alleged embezzlement of $28 million of public funds, charges he denied.

He was granted a provisional release order by the Malian courts and was released after 622 days in prison.

During his detention, Toure received a letter of support from FIFA president Gianni Infantino and was re-elected as Malian Football Federation president.

Toure lost his seat on the FIFA Council last month after failing to contest new elections.

He is no longer a member of the FIFA Council or the Confederation of African Football’s executive committee.
