South African Footballer Dies After Collapsing Before Match

Sinamandla Zondi, a 22-year-old defender for Durban City, has died after collapsing during a warm-up session before a second-tier match.

Zondi was taken to the hospital, and the match against Milford FC was abandoned at halftime after officials were informed of his death.

The cause of death is still unknown. Durban City released a statement expressing sadness and offering condolences to Zondi’s family and friends.

Zondi had made his professional debut in 2021 and was a regular player for the club, which currently tops the standings and is on track for promotion to the top flight of South African football.

The club described Zondi as “more than a talented footballer” and “an inspiration to all who knew him.”
