The agreement follows the construction of the Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor, which is 85% complete.

The corridor will link the Port of Lamu to Ethiopia, boosting trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.

The two countries have agreed on a list of tradable products and the currency to be used, and will collaborate on implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The agreement is expected to foster peace and economic cooperation between border communities.
