Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kenyan President William Ruto have upgraded their countries’ ties to a “new level” during a meeting in Beijing.

Both leaders pledged to create an “all-weather” China-Africa community, citing the need for stability in a turbulent international situation.

The two countries signed 20 cooperation agreements, including deals on science and technology, vocational education, water resources, and infrastructure development.

Xi and Ruto emphasized their commitment to upholding the World Trade Organisation’s values and opposing “new hegemonic tactics” such as unilateral sanctions and tariff barriers.

The agreements include plans to extend a railway line from Mombasa to Uganda’s border and develop Kenya’s medical and health industry.

China will also consider funding more projects in Kenya, which has struggled with a heavy debt load.

Ruto’s visit marks a significant step in strengthening China-Kenya relations, with both countries looking to deepen economic and security cooperation.
