Algeria has delivered four military helicopters to Niger as a gift aimed at deepening bilateral defense cooperation.
The handover was carried out on Sunday under orders from Army General Saïd Chengriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army.
According to a Ministry of National Defense statement, the move follows direct instructions from the President of the Republic, who also serves as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense.
The package included two MI-24V attack helicopters and two MI-171 transport helicopters. They departed from the secondary deployment base in In Guezzam and flew to Niamey airport in Niger.
Algeria also shipped ammunition for the aircraft aboard an Algerian Air Force military transport plane. The shipment included spare parts, maintenance and support equipment, and additional logistical supplies.
The ministry said the donation reflects Algeria’s commitment to supporting countries in the region, particularly in defense, security, and the exchange of expertise.
“Through this endeavor, Algeria renews its determination to continue its efforts, in coordination with its partners, to enhance security and stability in the region,” the statement added.
The gift is framed as part of broader strategic cooperation between Algeria and the Republic of Niger across multiple fields, with a focus on military collaboration.
