The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group has launched a drone attack on a military airport in Port Sudan, the Sudanese army has said.

This marks the first time the RSF has targeted the city, which is the de facto capital of Sudan’s military-led government, since the conflict between the warring factions began two years ago.

The attack on the Osman Digna Air Base caused limited damage, but no injuries were reported. The RSF has not commented on the incident.

The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF has resulted in significant humanitarian crisis, with over 150,000 people killed and 12 million displaced.

The attack on Port Sudan, a city that had previously avoided bombardment, highlights the escalating violence and instability in Sudan.

The international community remains concerned about the situation, with the United Nations describing it as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.
