The United States government has donated 14 mine-resistant, ambush-protected armored personnel carriers (APCs) worth over $6 million to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to significantly enhance the country’s counter-terrorism and border security operations.

The official handover ceremony took place at Burma Camp in Accra, symbolizing the deepening of bilateral defense cooperation and long-standing security ties between the two nations.

These Puma M36 vehicles are designed to offer enhanced troop protection and mobility in high-risk environments, thereby boosting Ghana’s operational readiness in responding to emerging security threats and safeguarding its territorial integrity.

Over 40 Ghanaian soldiers have received specialized training on operating and maintaining the vehicles.

US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, emphasized that the donation represents a symbol of enduring partnership rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and collective commitment to peace and stability.

Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, expressed deep gratitude, describing the donation as “generous and strategic” and a tangible expression of the shared commitment to peace, stability, and security within Ghana and the West African sub-region.

This donation adds to the growing list of US military support to Ghana, including patrol boats, mobile field hospitals, and critical infrastructure to reinforce the country’s defense systems.
