The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has established a committee to mediate the ongoing crisis over the position of the party’s National Secretary.

The dispute involves Samuel Anyanwu and Udeh Okoye, both of whom claim the position, with the matter currently before the courts. The situation escalated on Wednesday when their supporters clashed at the PDP secretariat during a BoT meeting.

Following the meeting, PDP BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, announced that the committee will be led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki. The committee’s mandate is to engage with the disputing parties, assess the situation, and present its findings to the Board for further action.

Wabara also conveyed assurances from the party’s Acting Chairman, Umar Damagum, that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will proceed as planned in February 2025. The meeting is expected to address pressing issues and reinforce the party’s unity, discipline, and core principles.

The BoT meeting, chaired by Wabara, was attended by key party figures, including Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido.
