Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade, the former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, has passed away at 70.
Born on November 30, 1954, in Ipoti-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Olubolade died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Apapa, Lagos, after slumping while playing lawn tennis at a nearby facility.
He drove himself to the tennis court in the evening and collapsed during the game. Despite efforts by medical officers to revive him, he was pronounced dead at Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital, Apapa.
Olubolade had a distinguished career in Nigeria’s public service, serving as:
- Military Administrator of Bayelsa State: He held this position from June 27, 1997, to July 9, 1998
- Ministerial Positions:
- Minister of Special Duties
- Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
- Minister of Police Affairs under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan
His death has been met with condolences from various quarters, with many describing him as a dedicated public servant. Burial arrangements will be announced later by the family.
