The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that a final-year student of Kwararafa University, Ahenjir Emmanuella, was killed by a stray bullet from a policeman during a stop-and-search operation in Makurdi.
The incident occurred on Friday around Wurukum roundabout, when police personnel opened fire on a commercial vehicle, resulting in Emmanuella’s death.
The police command has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident and assured that the officers responsible will be identified and held accountable.
Friends and family of the deceased had accused the police of shooting the student dead, demanding justice and an immediate investigation into the matter.
