Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been crowned the 2025 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year, claiming the honour for a joint-record third time.

The Egyptian received the prestigious award from club legend Ian Rush during the FWA’s annual gala dinner in central London, earning an overwhelming 90 percent of the vote from 918 journalists, the largest winning margin in over two decades.

Salah’s phenomenal 2024–25 campaign played a key role in Liverpool’s triumphant Premier League title run. The 31-year-old has racked up 33 goals and 23 assists across 51 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

His teammate Virgil van Dijk finished second in the voting, followed by Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

Speaking at the event, Salah expressed his gratitude: “It means a lot winning this award , it’s incredible. I always feel special when I receive recognition from the writers, and to win it with such a margin is just unbelievable.

“Winning the Premier League and contributing to the team the way I have, I don’t think I’ve ever felt that level of happiness at the club, especially in the moment we clinched the title against Spurs.”
