FIFA is asking about 60 fans to pay up after a website bug accidentally gave them free tickets to the 2026 World Cup.
The error happened during checkout on Wednesday, June 3. Instead of charging fans, the FIFA ticketing site set prices to $0 for some group stage matches in Toronto. Those tickets are still reserved, but FIFA says fans must now pay the correct amount.
“FIFA can confirm that approximately 60 FIFA World Cup 2026 fans received a communication regarding tickets allocated at no charge due to a prior payment issue,” FIFA Media posted on X. “The tickets remain reserved and affected fans have been invited to complete payment. FIFA regrets the error and any inconvenience caused.”
The glitch adds to growing scrutiny around World Cup ticketing. FIFA has already been subpoenaed by New Jersey and New York over resale and consumer protection concerns. Critics also say ticket prices are wildly uneven across the tournament, with some games priced far above others.
