Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced a ban on commercial motorcycle, okada, operations across the state between 10:30pm and 5:30am daily.
The directive, announced Wednesday, takes effect immediately. According to the governor’s office, the restriction targets rising cases of robbery, kidnapping, and attacks linked to late-night okada use. Security agencies have been ordered to enforce compliance, with violators facing impoundment of bikes and prosecution.
Riders’ unions say the move will affect livelihoods, but residents in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, and Oyo town say they welcome it if it reduces night-time insecurity.
