Hosts Ogun State thrilled the home crowd with a dominant performance in the final of the 4x400m mixed relay, clinching gold ahead of rivals Edo and Lagos States.

The Ogun quartet of Deji Sholotan, Hafsoh Majekodunmi, Sanni Itopa, and Jimoh Toheebat led from the opening leg and never looked back, powering to victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd. They had earlier qualified for the final with the second-best time in the heats, clocking 3:23.90 behind Edo State’s 3:23.46.

However, in the final, Team Edo — represented by David Ahkalu, Olaniyi Ayomide, Anita Enaruna, and Emmanuel Barabur — couldn’t match Ogun’s pace and settled for silver. Lagos State, featuring Benjamin Magaji, Miracle Donald, Olorunwa Olamilekan, and Jane Chioma, finished third to claim the bronze medal.

In the sprint events, Edo State’s Chidera Ezeakor impressed in the men’s 100m heats, clocking the fastest time of the day with 10.22 seconds to win the first heat. Akwa Ibom’s Alvin Onyeama followed closely with a time of 10.40 seconds to win heat 5.

Olympian Enoch Adegoke of Edo State also advanced to the semi-finals with a time of 10.44 seconds, while another standout, Favour Ashe, comfortably won his heat in 10.55 seconds.

In the women’s 100m heats, Delta State’s Success Umukoro drew attention with a time of 11.58 seconds to qualify for the semi-finals. However, the fastest time in the women’s heats came from her teammate Faith Odumosor, who clocked 11.52 seconds to win heat 3.

Delta’s dominance continued in the men’s sprints as Obi Chukwuka also posted an impressive 10.54 seconds to advance from the heats.
