Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Obamuyi as the new Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.
According to the statement, the appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council in line with the provisions of the institution’s Act and other relevant regulations.
The Governing Council, chaired by Dr Tunji Abayomi, recommended Obamuyi after he emerged as the top candidate among 15 applicants interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
Professor Obamuyi, a renowned scholar in Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.

Before his appointment, Obamuyi served as the Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA. He also made history as the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
He was named the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa in 2015 by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius.
The new Vice Chancellor has also served on programme accreditation teams of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and worked as a chairperson and subject expert on review panels for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.

Throughout his academic career, Obamuyi has presented research papers at international conferences in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, and the United States.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence in the new Vice Chancellor’s ability to build on the achievements of the university, urging him to promote excellence in teaching, research, and community service.
The governor also charged Obamuyi to uphold the institution’s core values while fostering peace, innovation, and collaboration among staff, students, and other stakeholders.
