The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced a scheduled maintenance shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), set to begin on May 24, 2025.

The shutdown is part of a planned maintenance and sustainability assessment aimed at ensuring optimal performance of the facility.

The NNPC Ltd stated that it is working closely with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure the maintenance activities are carried out efficiently and transparently.

This shutdown is not the first for the refinery, as it suffered a similar fate in December 2024, shortly after operations resumed following a $1.5 billion rehabilitation.

The NNPC Ltd has assured the public that further updates will be provided regularly through official channels, including its website, media platforms, and public statements.

The maintenance shutdown is expected to enhance the refinery’s capacity to deliver sustainable energy security, aligning with the NNPC Ltd’s commitment to improving the nation’s energy infrastructure.

The company’s efforts to maintain and upgrade its facilities demonstrate its dedication to optimizing performance and ensuring the long-term viability of Nigeria’s energy sector.
