World record holder Tobi Amusan delivered a stunning performance at the 2025 Diamond League meet in Paris, clocking a season-best 12.24 seconds to secure second place in the women’s 100m hurdles final.
The time stands as Amusan’s second-fastest ever, just behind her world record of 12.12 seconds set in 2022.
Amusan launched a powerful finish in the closing metres, nearly catching race winner Grace Stark of the United States, who stormed out of the blocks and held off the challenge to win in a personal best and meet record of 12.21 seconds. With that time, Stark now ranks as the fifth-fastest woman in history over the 100m hurdles.
Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent claimed third with a swift 12.30 seconds, rounding off a high-quality podium.
The result marks another significant milestone in what has been a season of resurgence for Amusan. After opening her campaign with back-to-back fourth-place finishes in Xiamen and Shaoxing, China, the Nigerian star rebounded in May with a victory in Rabat, Morocco, where she ran a then-season best and meet record of 12.45 seconds.
Paris was Amusan’s fourth appearance in this year’s Diamond League, and her form continues to build impressively as she eyes major championships later in the year.
The 2022 world champion faced an elite field that included global medalists and title contenders such as Keni Harrison of the USA, Ackera Nugent, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, Dutch champion Nadine Visser, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, and current Diamond League leader Grace Stark.
Despite the tough lineup, Amusan’s experience and steady improvement ensured she remained a strong contender, earning crucial points as the battle to qualify for the Diamond League final in Zurich heats up.
She now sits fourth in the overall Diamond League standings with 10 points, trailing Stark (23), Danielle Williams (15), and Marione Fourie (12).
With momentum on her side, Amusan remains one to watch as the season progresses.
