Iran’s top diplomat and chief nuclear negotiator, Abbas Araghchi, is set to meet with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo.

The meeting comes after a leaked UN report revealed Iran has increased its enrichment of uranium to 60% purity, a level close to the 90% required for nuclear weapons.

Araghchi will also meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during his visit. He has stated that he received elements of a US proposal for a potential nuclear deal after five rounds of talks mediated by Oman.

Araghchi cautioned against new European sanctions and urged the IAEA to prevent parties from exploiting its report for political objectives.

The IAEA’s board of governors is expected to assess Iran’s nuclear activities at its next quarterly meeting in Vienna.

Western nations have accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons capabilities, which Tehran denies.
