Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s approach to fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange policy.

According to Obi, while he supports the removal of fuel subsidies, he believes it should have been implemented in a more organized and structured manner to mitigate its impact on Nigerians.

Obi emphasized the importance of having a well-planned strategy in place before implementing such policies. He noted that the removal of fuel subsidies can have far-reaching consequences on the economy and the lives of ordinary citizens.

In his opinion, a more gradual approach would have been more effective in managing the transition.

Regarding the foreign exchange policy, Obi stated that floating a currency can be beneficial if done at the right time and under the right conditions.

However, he pointed out that Nigeria’s current economic situation, characterized by low productivity, makes it challenging to reap the benefits of a floating currency.

Obi’s criticisms highlight the need for careful consideration and planning when implementing economic policies.

His comments have sparked a national conversation about the best approach to managing Nigeria’s economy and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
