A tragic incident has unfolded in Kogi State, where kidnappers have killed a 76-year-old retired Major of the Nigerian Army, Pastor Joe Ajayi, after collecting a ₦10 million ransom.

Ajayi, a respected cleric and former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kabba-Bunu chapter, was abducted from his residence in Odo-Ape by unidentified gunmen.

According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded a ₦50 million ransom, which Ajayi’s family was unable to pay.

As Ajayi’s health deteriorated due to lack of access to his medications, the kidnappers reduced the ransom to ₦10 million.

Unfortunately, even after the family paid the ransom, the kidnappers still killed Ajayi, and his remains have been deposited at Kabba Specialist Hospital mortuary.

This incident highlights the growing concern over insecurity in the region, with kidnapping for ransom becoming an increasingly common occurrence.

The case also raises questions about the effectiveness of security agencies in apprehending kidnappers and ensuring the safe release of their victims.

The Kogi State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident, with the Public Relations Officer stating that he is unaware of the development and would need to investigate further.

As the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the senseless killing of a respected citizen and the implications for their safety and security.
