A Nigerian man based in Italy, Edobor Ambrose Ali, has confessed to being hired for an all-expenses-paid drug trafficking mission after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted him at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos with over 14,000 tramadol pills concealed in winter clothing.

Ali was attempting to board an Air France flight to Italy when his luggage was flagged during baggage scanning, leading to the discovery of the illicit drugs.

In his confessional statement, Ali revealed that he was paid €2000 to courier the drug consignment from Nigeria to Milan, Italy.

The NDLEA’s interception of Ali is part of the agency’s sustained operations aimed at curbing international drug smuggling networks and dismantling courier rings using Nigerian airports.

The NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), lauded the efforts of the MMIA command and other units for recent seizures and arrests, praising their pursuit of a fair balance between drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.

This recent arrest highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerian authorities in combating drug trafficking and the importance of continued vigilance in securing the country’s borders and airports.

The NDLEA remains committed to disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking networks, both locally and internationally.
