The Central African Republic (CAR) has unveiled a 30-man provisional squad and launched full-scale preparations for their highly anticipated debut at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, marking a significant milestone in the country’s footballing journey.

Under the guidance of head coach Eloge Enza, the Fauves de Bas-Oubangui are engaged in intensive daily training sessions at the Barthelemy Boganda Stadium in Bangui, with double sessions scheduled each day to ensure peak physical and tactical readiness. As per CHAN regulations, the squad comprises only locally based players.

During a spirited address at the team’s first training session, Célestin Yanindji, President of the Central African Football Federation (FCF), charged the players to embrace the moment and fight for national pride.

“This is more than just football – it’s an extraordinary adventure to represent your country,” Yanindji declared. “Behind every dribble, pass, and goal are thousands of supporters who believe in you. Stay focused. Stay united. Victory is our mission.”

Scheduled to kick off in August 2025 across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, CHAN is Africa’s premier tournament for players active in domestic leagues. CAR’s participation this year marks their first-ever appearance in the competition – a historic achievement that has ignited national excitement.

Drawn in Group B, the Central African side will face tough opposition from CHAN regulars Tanzania (co-hosts), Madagascar, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso – all seasoned campaigners on the continental stage.

Preparations are structured into two phases: three weeks of intensive training at home in Bangui, followed by a two-week foreign training camp, which will include three international friendlies (fixtures to be announced). This phased approach is designed to sharpen tactical execution, enhance physical fitness, and strengthen team chemistry.

Coach Enza, a widely respected figure in Central African football, is emphasizing discipline, conditioning, and cohesion. The squad reflects a blend of youthful promise and seasoned talent, highlighted by emerging stars such as striker Nze Ronaldo and midfielder Galabazi Angelo.

For CAR, CHAN 2024 is more than a football tournament – it’s a symbol of national progress, pride, and a chance to showcase the country’s footballing potential to the continent.

As the countdown to August continues, the players are not just preparing for matches – they are carrying the hopes of a nation eager for recognition and ready to make history on African soil.
