The Lagos State Government has issued a denial regarding allegations that its agencies were involved in the demolition of a property belonging to the brother of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections.

Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos Commissioner of Information, released a statement describing Obi’s claims as “disturbing and without facts”.

The swift response from the Lagos State Government suggests that the administration is keen to distance itself from the demolition, potentially to avoid any political fallout or public perception of targeting the family of a prominent political figure.

However, without further details on the circumstances surrounding the demolition, questions remain about the property’s status and the reasons behind the action.

Peter Obi, known for his vocal stance on various national issues, has previously drawn attention to social and governance matters in Nigeria.

The demolition of his brother’s property and the subsequent denial by the Lagos State Government may lead to further scrutiny of the government’s actions and policies regarding property rights and enforcement.

As the situation develops, more information is expected to emerge about the property in question, the legal basis for the demolition (if any), and the relationship between the Lagos State Government and the property’s owner.

The public and media will likely continue to monitor the situation closely, especially given the political prominence of Peter Obi.
