Agunwa Anakwe, a former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives during the country’s Third Republic, has passed away at the age of 68 after a brief illness.
Anakwe, a native of Anambra State, made history in 1992 when he became the Speaker at the age of 36, serving in the short-lived interim civilian administration led by Chief Ernest Shonekan.
His death was confirmed by Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, on Monday.
