A fire broke out in a telecommunications building in central Cairo’s Ramses district on Monday, causing widespread communications disruptions across the Egyptian capital.
The blaze, whose cause is still unknown, led to people being unable to make phone calls and disrupted some major news websites that relied on ADSL internet services in the area.
A plume of smoke was visible above the district as emergency services responded quickly to control and extinguish the fire.
Fortunately, the blaze was contained, according to Egyptian state TV and Reuters witnesses, with no immediate reports of casualties.
Technical teams from Telecom Egypt have started working on resolving the issue, aiming to restore services as soon as possible.
