The ongoing Local Government Elections in Lagos have been peaceful, with no negative security complaints received, according to Lagos Commissioner of Police (CP) Olohundare Jimoh.

Speaking during an interview at a polling booth in Ikorodu, Jimoh said security deployments would be maintained throughout the exercise, with enough personnel stationed across polling units and collation centers to ensure sustained security.

Jimoh, who has been on confidence-building patrols across the state, assured that the police are prepared for post-election security and would not tolerate any activity that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

He urged those who would celebrate their victories or losses to do so without provocation.

The police commissioner also revealed that 16 gunboats have been deployed to man both urban and rural riverine areas, with the Marine Commander working closely with the police to ensure a peaceful process.

Despite the security presence, voter turnout appears to be low, with only a handful of persons at polling units and many young men turning streets into football fields.

The police have a comprehensive deployment plan in place, with personnel present at all collation centers across the 57 local government areas.

Jimoh encouraged voters to come out and cast their votes, assuring that the police are committed to maintaining peace throughout the process.
