Former Super Eagles winger and gifted left-footer, Okwuchukwu ‘Allen’ Waobikeze, has died.

His passing comes just days after the death of ex-Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, marking another sad moment for Nigerian football.

Popularly known as “Babaoo” by fans, Waobikeze was admired for his powerful left foot and remarkable ball control. While his appearances for the national team were limited due to strong competition, he made a lasting impact in Nigeria’s domestic football scene.

He featured prominently for clubs like Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, BCC Lions of Gboko, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC), where he was a standout performer.

His death was confirmed on Monday by his brother, Eli Waobikeze, via a post on Facebook.

“On behalf of the Waobikeze family, I would like to announce the peaceful passing to eternal glory of my brother Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. He transitioned at about 7:34 pm CST,” the statement read.

“We appreciate everyone who prayed, called, and visited my brother. Every funeral arrangement will be posted. Please keep our family in your prayers at this time as we plan to send forth our beloved brother. God bless you all.”

Tributes have begun pouring in for the late footballer, who is remembered as one of the most technically gifted players of his generation.
