Mamman Daura, influential nephew to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has been hospitalised in London and is currently recuperating, according to an official statement.

Mallam Daura, known for his close relationship with the former president and widely regarded as a key figure in the so-called “Buhari cabal,” has long been perceived as an influential voice within Buhari’s inner circle.

His health status was confirmed on Monday by the office of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is currently in the United Kingdom.

Vice President Shettima traveled to London at the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead a Nigerian delegation to repatriate the body of the late president, who died on Sunday following a prolonged illness.

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, upon arrival in London, met with and condoled with the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in London,” read a statement issued by the VP’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha. “The Vice President also visited the late President’s nephew, Malam Mamman Daura, who is recuperating in a London hospital.”

Though it remains unclear if Daura is receiving care at the same hospital where President Buhari passed away, his condition is said to be stable.

The remains of President Buhari are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday.

The Katsina State Government has announced that his burial will take place the same day at 2 p.m. in his hometown of Daura.
