A devastating attack on the Bindi-Jebbu community in Plateau State’s Riyom Local Government Area has left at least 27 farmers dead, with many more injured.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association accused security agents of complicity in the attack, which occurred between 4:00 am and 6:00 am on Tuesday.
The group alleged that despite prior intelligence about the impending attack, the reinforcement team from Operation Safe Haven failed to act decisively, allowing the attackers to storm the community, open fire on sleeping residents, and set several homes ablaze.
The association commended the Unit Commander at Sopp for repelling the attackers from one direction but criticized another OPSH unit for allegedly failing to intervene during the massacre.
The incident has reignited concerns over the security situation in Plateau State, which has been plagued by repeated attacks on farming communities.
In response to the growing insecurity, the Plateau State Government recently recruited 150 new agro-rangers to strengthen local security and protect rural populations.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association has called for a transparent investigation into the killings and the alleged role of security personnel.
